Saguaro with Beavertail Cactus

Description

Thought I saw this on the way in while driving into Cave Creek, AZ. On the way back out, stopped to get a better look...yup, it sure is! It's an 18 ft tall Saguaro with it's main body crown blasted off by lightning, with some new arms starting to grow in it's place...AND...a live Beavertail cactus growing out of the main trunk. After exploring the area, I'm certain that Beavertail cactus aren't native to the immediate area, and must have come from bird droppings several years ago, from many miles away.
Both seem healthy, but like the rest of us Desert Rats, could use some rain.
I'll be going back soon to take better pics with better daylight...and a ladder to get closer.

It's also a nice companion piece to a photo I took in Castine, MN. a few years ago of a large Oak(?) tree with a small Pine tree growing from it, where the trunk divides into two large branches. I'll have to find that pic and put it in my pic gallery.
